The Zimmerli seeks to educate, inspire, and challenge diverse audiences by providing them with the direct experience of art in its many forms. The museum supports Rutgers’ educational mission by collecting, researching, preserving, and displaying works of art, and by making its unique collections and archives accessible for study and enjoyment by the Rutgers community and visitors from throughout New Jersey and beyond. The Zimmerli aspires to inspire all ages through its exhibitions, publications, and educational programs. Admission is always free!

Enjoy Indigenous Identities: Here, Now & Always, a provocative survey of contemporary Native American art across media, curated by the renowned artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Citizen of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation). A prolific curator, Quick-to-See Smith has curated over 30 shows, including The Land Carries Our Ancestors: Contemporary Art by Native Americans at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C (2023). Indigenous Identities features 97 living artists that represent 74 distinct Indigenous nations and communities from across North America and includes painting, works on paper, photography, ceramics, beadwork, weaving, sculpture, installation, and video.

Other spring exhibitions include: Hope With Humor: Works by Jaune Quick-to-See Smith from the Collection; My Powerful Hair; An Eye for Photos: Gifts from Arthur and Anne Goldstein; Napoleon: A Visual Legacy of Power; Painting to Scale; Crossing Borders: Geometric Abstraction from 1960 to Now; and Shifting Perspectives on Environmental Crisis.
