Pro Arts has a gallery, artist studios, and a lobby that will be open for visitors during Garden State Art Weekend.
Studio artist Kirkland Bray will have the lobby for his show, "In the Moment."
In the gallery, the studio artists will produce a group show called "On the In-Between." Their curatorial statement as follows:
"We live in a time of thresholds, between presence and distraction, certainty and doubt, between who we've been and who we're still becoming. Most of us know this feeling — the sense of hovering in an unresolved space, waiting for something to settle that maybe isn't going to. Between Awakening and Sleep starts there, in the unstable middle.
The in-between shows up differently for everyone. It can be cognitive — that suspended moment before a thought fully forms. It can be embodied, lived in the body as identity refuses easy categories. It can be cultural, spiritual, and emotional. What these experiences share is a quality of transition: unsteady, sometimes disorienting, but also strangely open. There's more room to see from the edge than from the center.
The artists in this exhibition make their home in that space. Some work slowly and physically, insisting that presence matters. Others move through fragmentation, hybridity, and fluidity — forms that reflect a world that no longer holds still. None of them are trying to resolve the tension. They're choosing to stay inside it.
The title comes from that particular kind of threshold — not fully awake, not fully asleep — where perception hangs in the balance, ready to sharpen or quietly slip away.
The in-between isn't a problem to be solved. It's a place to stand and look from.
This exhibition is an invitation to stay there long enough to see what you've been missing."
