Studio Route 29

  • Instagram
Studio Route 29 is a progressive art studio centering the creative practices and perspectives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are a community space that champions inclusion and brings people together in play and creative spirit. We aim to strengthen the art community by extending resources and access to those historically dispossessed of them. We provide space, materials, and support to explore, create, and develop an artistic practice. Artists have access to a wide range of mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, installation, fashion design and production, weaving, rug making, sound art and music, performance, video, photography, and poetry.

We are integrated into the broader creative community of Frenchtown and beyond, with clubs, workshops, field trips, exhibitions, performances, film screenings, and festivities open to the public. Our gallery celebrates, represents, and advocates the artistic and cultural production of the studio and the larger progressive art studio movement. We exhibit and sell artworks by our artists and others, promote our studio artists’ artwork broadly, create context for the work made here, and build connections within the contemporary art world. We provide career support and professional development specific to each artist’s personal goals, supporting our studio artists to accomplish their dreams and helping the larger creative community become more inclusive, connected, and vital.

Our on-site gallery, Beauty Gallery, is currently hosting a group exhibition entitled Vision Texturer, featuring work from Daisy Rodriguez, Karyn Tettemer, and Matthew Jacobs. Vision Texturer presents work by three artists who paint on Friday. A survey of their recent work on canvas, the show is held loosely together by a shared inquisitive and intuitive approach to painting-making.
