duCret Center of Art

The duCret Center of the Arts is the oldest arts school in New Jersey. Founded in 1926 by artist and teacher Marjorie Van Emburgh, the school was initially located in a large carriage house in a residential area of Plainfield. Over its 98 years, duCret has grown to occupy a 27,000-square-foot facility dedicated to art in the Van Wyck Brooks Historic District in Plainfield, NJ. duCret offers classes in all art forms: painting, jewelry design, stained glass, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and weaving. In addition to art classes, duCret presents numerous live theater performances, musical concerts, and lectures throughout the year in the theater, gallery and on the front porch of the school.

On art weekend, visitors are welcome to come to duCret to tour the Strong Residence, which is on both the National and State Register of Historic Places. In addition, there will be an exhibition of the Davis Collection.
